My name is Michelle Gyimah and I'm a pay gaps expert with over 16 years experience of supporting organisations to build more inclusive workplaces through addressing their pay gap issues.
I spent 10 years at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, supporting employers to close their pay gaps through writing guidance reports and running workshops. This was until 2014, when I took voluntary redundancy whilst on maternity leave and Equality Pays was born. Ironically, this was the period in my life where I experienced becoming a gender pay gap statistic myself!
Equality Pays was set up to provide the business coaching, strategy, support, and confidence that organisations want and need to make a real difference.
My mission is to educate and share what organisations should be focusing on when it comes to addressing the root causes of their pay gaps in order to create more inclusive, equitable workplaces.
There is so much noise out there on pay gap figures and how bad they are and the idea that reducing pay gap figures is *the* only measure of success.
After spending over 16 years working with organisations on gender equality issues, I know that this isn't true. There is more to the gender pay gap than just the figure. This is where 'Beyond the pay gap figure' was born.
I support organisations like yours to identify the different trigger points that create and exacerbate pay gaps and then focus on workplace strategies needed to address them. Often this means going against the grain of conventional advice and focus, giving organisations permission to approach things differently. So far, this approach has created more sustainable results in creating more authentic workplace culture changes that are truly required to build inclusive workplaces for all.
